Christmas, Already?!?!

December 1, 2011 1 comment

Christmas….already!?

I feel like I just bought gifts and celebrated Christmas last week. 2011 is coming to an end and I have no idea what I did with the year – it’s all a blurr. I do know that now it means I have to get cracking on buying gifts for my loved ones and I’m sure you do you too. Here are a few gift ideas that are topping everyone’s list.

For the tech savvy:

iPad seems to one of the most asked about gift request out there but don’t forget about the cool accessories that go with it. Check out the ION Audio Arcade Cabinet for iPad (ICADE) ($99.99) at Future Shop. This is perfect for those feeling nostalgic about the old arcade games – remember spending all your quarters and time on your favourite game after school? “The ICADE integrates your iPad into an authentic, arcade-style cabinet complete with joystick and buttons! iCADE is compatible with 100 Atari classics including Asteroids, Centipede, and Battlezone.”

For the music lover:

There are so many good albums out recently so why not give the music lover on your list an iTunes gift card. Hot albums out now:

  • Drake – Take Care
  • Mary J. Blige – My Life II – The Journey
  • Beyonce – 4
  • Rihanna – Talk that talk
  • Pitbull – Planet Pit

For the artsy friend:

Who doesn’t love ‘polaroid’ photos! Outcast may have made it popular a few years ago but there seems to be resurgence recently.  Everything retro seems to be back in season so why not pick up the FUJI INSTAX MINI 7S WHITE CAMERA ($89.99) for the photo enthusiast on your list. It’s light weight, compacts and prints great quality photos. Don’t forget to pick up film (Fujifilm instax mini Colour Film – 5.3 x 8.4 cm) to go along with this gift.

For the time keeper:

A classic watch can complete a look and Fabsugar.com pointed out a great selection that range from $48 to $21,900 (US)! With a wide range like that you’re sure to find something that fits your budget.

Happy shopping folks!

Peace,

T

Get Off The Couch!

November 22, 2011 Leave a comment

Friends are always asking me for ideas on what to do around the city so I wanted to share some ideas in case you’re looking for the different things to do with your weekends as well.

If you like jazz or great live bands: I recently went to Reservoir Lounge on Wellington and had a great time! They have live jazz bands, dancing (if the mood strikes) and good food. A reservation for a table is required and don’t be surprised at how cozy the space is; the atmosphere and dim lighting will draw you in. I sat close to the stage so I had prime spot to see the live band. The food was in reasonable portions but a little on the small side. It could be a great date spot or just a night out with friends. I should warn you that it packs up pretty quickly as people come in to hear the band and hang out at the bar so conversations can get pretty loud.

Snap your fingers – Poetry or Spoken Word: There are quite a few places in the city that you can go to check out local spoken word performers such as Trane Studio (Bathurst, just south of Dupont) and Harlem Restaurant (Richmond East location). I’ve been to both and you can’t believe some of the amazing talent we have in this city. If you’re planning to catch an open mic night those ticket are generally cheaper than if you’re going to see an actual show. Be prepared to see the good, the bad and hilarious acts – perfect for a group of friends.

Day or Night at the Museum: I know some people have this impression that museums are boring and stuffy but they’re not. They regularly introduce new exhibitions that cater to everyone’s interest and there’s always a gala event happening at the ROM. You may be one of the lucky few who get an invite. One exhibition I plan on checking out this week at the ROM is the Maya: Secrets of their Ancient World (until April 9, 2012). “It features 250 artifacts that take you on a remarkable journey through the ancient world of the Maya.”

You now have three reasons to get off your couch and explore the city.

Peace,

TH
